The Riddle in a Bottle wins award for excellence in filmmaking.
DVD wins Gold Kahuna Award at the 2009 Honolulu International Film Festival

MILFORD, Michigan – The Riddle in a Bottle has been chosen to receive the Gold Kahuna Award for excellence in filmmaking at the 2009 Honolulu International Film Festival on March 6 – 8 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Riddle in a Bottle, by filmmakers Robert Sams and Laura Sams of Sisbro Studios, and publishers and best-selling children’s book authors Carl R. Sams II and Jean Stoick of Carl R. Sams II Photography, Inc., teaches children how life on Earth is connected by moving water. The movie features two siblings, The Riddle Solvers, who work to solve a mysterious riddle from the ocean, which they find in a magic bottle. They receive clues from sea turtles, tide pool creatures, pond animals and even a singing pirate.

"We spent a month filming in Hawaii to tell a five minute story about tide pools. For hours Robert hovered in one spot, letting all the small creatures in the tide pool meander back and forth in front of the camera,” says Laura Sams. “It was a truly exciting time, never knowing what could show up in the tide pool from day to day. One time a humpback whale jumped out of the water about 100 feet off shore!"

"It is rewarding to win an award in Hawaii, a state we filmed in. Hawaii is truly a magical place, and we wanted to convey some of that in the film," says Robert Sams.

The Honolulu International Film Festival is held annually on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. The festival recognizes outstanding achievement in filmmaking from around the world. The festival showcases the finest independent cinema the world has to offer while helping advance the careers of promising filmmakers by providing a platform through which their talents can be recognized. This year's festival will showcase feature films, documentaries, short films, foreign films, Hawaiian films, action sports films, music videos, experimental films, television pilots, environmental films, and more. Award winning films were selected from several hundreds of films submitted from over 30 countries around the world.

Robert Sams and Laura Sams are a brother and sister duo who produced Lost in the Woods: The Movie, winner of the Panda Award for the best wildlife film for children world-wide. The Riddle in a Bottle is available for $19.95 each at many area gift shops and bookstores, or by calling 1-800-552-1867. For more information visit www.apiratesquest.com.
